Why convert HEIC to WebP
WebP is the modern web image format: it typically produces files 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality, which means faster-loading pages and lower bandwidth. Every current browser can display it, so it is a safe choice for websites, web apps and CMS uploads.
Converting straight from HEIC to WebP skips the usual "HEIC → JPG → compress again" detour and its double round of lossy encoding, so you keep more quality for the same file size.
How to convert and control quality
Add your HEIC files above, leave the output on WebP, and use the quality slider to balance size against sharpness — around 80 is a good sweet spot for web photos. Download individually or as a ZIP.
One browser caveat: creating WebP relies on the browser's encoder, which Chrome, Edge and Firefox all provide. Safari can read WebP but cannot encode it yet — if you are on Safari the tool will tell you and you can switch browser or export JPG instead.
Frequently asked questions
Why use WebP?
WebP typically produces files 25–35% smaller than JPG at equivalent quality and is supported by all modern browsers.
Does this work in Safari?
Reading WebP works everywhere. Creating WebP requires Chrome, Edge or Firefox — Safari can't encode WebP yet, and we'll tell you if your browser can't.
What quality setting should I use for the web?
For photographs on a website, 75–85 usually looks indistinguishable from the original while cutting size significantly. Drop lower only if page weight matters more than fine detail.
Are my files uploaded?
No — the whole conversion runs locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
