Convert HEIC on iPhone, Windows and Mac
On an iPhone or iPad, open this page in Safari or Chrome, tap the box, choose your photos from the library, and download the JPGs straight to Files — no App Store download needed. If you would rather stop your iPhone making HEIC at all, go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose "Most Compatible", which switches the camera to JPG going forward.
On Windows, HEIC files often will not open or preview without Microsoft's paid HEVC extension. Converting to JPG here sidesteps that entirely — the JPGs open in Photos, Paint, Office and every browser with no extra software.
On a Mac, Preview can already export HEIC, but doing it here is faster for a big batch and strips location and camera metadata at the same time.
HEIC vs JPG: what actually changes
HEIC (the format behind Apple's HEIF photos) stores roughly the same visual quality as JPG at about half the file size, which is why iOS adopted it. The trade-off is compatibility: plenty of websites, upload forms, printers and older apps still only accept JPG.
Converting re-encodes the image, so a JPG at the same visual quality is usually a little larger than the original HEIC. At quality 90+ the difference is invisible for normal photos. Every conversion also strips EXIF and GPS metadata by default, so you are not accidentally sharing where a photo was taken.

Why are my iPhone photos HEIC?
Since iOS 11, iPhones use HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) because it stores the same quality at roughly half the file size of JPG. The trade-off: many apps and websites still don't accept it.
Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?
You control the quality slider (we default to 90). At 90+, the difference is invisible for typical photos. JPG files will usually be somewhat larger than the original HEIC at the same visual quality.
How do I convert HEIC to JPG on Windows without extra software?
