When to choose PNG over JPG
PNG is lossless: it stores every pixel exactly, with no compression artefacts, and supports transparency. That makes it the right target when you plan to edit the image further, need crisp edges on screenshots or graphics, or are feeding the file into a tool that requires PNG input.
The cost is size — a PNG of a photograph is typically several times larger than the equivalent JPG. If the end goal is uploading, emailing or posting a normal photo, JPG is usually the better trade-off. If you need an editing master or exact fidelity, PNG is the one to pick.

Will the PNG keep transparency?
