Frequently asked questions
Last updated: July 2026
Do you store my photos?
No. Conversions run entirely in your browser — your photos are never uploaded to any server. When you close the tab, everything is gone.
Is ConvertCanvas free?
Yes. Free, no account, no watermarks, no trial limits.
What input formats are supported?
HEIC and HEIF (iPhone photos), JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and BMP.
What output formats can I create?
JPG, PNG and WebP. (WebP creation requires Chrome, Edge or Firefox.)
How many files can I convert at once?
Up to 100 files per batch, 100MB per file.
Why did my file fail to convert?
The most common causes: the file is corrupted, it isn't actually the format its extension claims, or it's over 100MB. The error message under the file explains the specific reason.
Does conversion reduce quality?
You control it. The quality slider (default 90) sets the trade-off between size and fidelity for JPG and WebP. PNG output is lossless.
What happens to EXIF data and GPS location?
All metadata, including GPS location, is removed during conversion. Your converted photos carry no hidden data.
Why is the first HEIC conversion slightly slower?
The HEIC decoder downloads on first use (about 1MB) and is then cached. Every conversion after that is instant.
Can I convert on my phone?
Yes — the converter works on iOS Safari and Android Chrome. Very large batches are better on a desktop, which has more memory.
I found a bug — where do I report it?
Please use the contact page. Include your browser name and what you were converting (no need to send us the photo).
